Let Me Find Them

    I am Tim Murphy, a native New Englander, a graduate of the National Institute for Genealogical Studies, and a  resident of Boston, Massachusetts for several decades. My own ancestral roots began in Ireland, as well as many other residents of Boston and New England. My lifelong profession as a Professor of History (MA - History) at a private school near Boston (now retired), along with my  natural curiosity, led me down the genealogical path a couple of decades ago. This has resulted in my performing genealogy research for over twenty years, primarily  in Boston, Massachusetts, New England, Canada and Ireland.

    Like so many others, I initially became interested in my own family history years ago, after the passing of a family elder. As our family sat in the funeral parlor that day, providing the director with  vital familial information, it occurred to me how little I actually knew about my own family! As the youngest of eight children, from an Irish Catholic family, I knew little, or nothing, about my own family's past. My older siblings had provided what little familial information they themselves thought to be correct. This included the names, and surnames, of my grandparents, whom I had never known.  I set about to learn more about them, and in doing so, learned that the information provided that sad day in the funeral parlor, was in fact, incorrect! As a professional genealogy researcher, I have also learned that this is not an uncommon occurrence amongst many who pass along their own family oral history.

     I quickly learned that the pursuit of one's ancestral past can become a passion. It certainly became just that for myself. After many years of participating in my own genealogy research, others began to approach me with requests to assist them with their own family history research efforts. Upon retirement a several years ago, and at the urging of others, I decided  to offer my services  professionally. This is why we are here now, to see how I may assist you in getting past those bothersome "brick walls" that we all eventually reach during our family history research.      Presently, after having retired from teaching, I maintain residences in Boston and Ireland. Now, single once again, and with several children and grandchildren, I get to travel quite a bit. This, along with my love for family history research,  provides me with the opportunities to combine business with pleasure. Frequent trips throughout Ireland, various New England states and Canada, are a regular part of my itineraries.  As my visits with family and friends take place in the evenings, this provides me with ample time to visit my beloved research centers during the daytime hours. Allow me to use some of this research time to help solve some of your genealogical "brick-walls" !
